Giving game playing centre stage at companies, as a way of reducing stress at work
The Centre National de Formation aux Métiers du Jeu et du Jouet (“National Vocational Training Centre for Games and Toys”, FM2J) is specialized in training professionals who make use of games and toys (in early childhood education, gerontology, culture and mediation, at youth centres, etc.). This cooperative contacted the Université de Lyon Science Shop to consider the following social question: "How might game playing at work help alleviate work-related stress, or even fight professional burnout and resolve stress-inducing situations?”
This study considers the potential of game playing as a tool for well-being and health at work. Studying well-being at work necessitates analysing and understanding all aspects of work. The field of ergonomics, which studies man in his environment, was solicited to tackle this question, which stands out in part for its combination of game playing and work, two generally conflicting terms, with the first evoking pleasure and the second seriousness.
